JOBO SilverBase Expert

The Smallest Black and White Flat Film Processor

Hermann Groeneveld / SilvergrainClassics

JOBO has been synonymous with analog photography since 1923. The company’s 100th anniversary two years ago was reason enough to launch what is probably the smallest film processor in the world, the JOBO SilverBase. Ideally suited for developing black and white film in 35mm or 120 roll film format.

Now JOBO is introducing its big brother, the JOBO SilverBase Expert. It is one of the smallest black and white sheet film processors in the world. The motor of the SilverBase Expert can also drive the large JOBO Expert Drums. The large tanks are flanged to the SilverBase Expert in such a way that the chemistry can be filled into the already rotating drum. The JOBO processor stands for reliably uniform development over the entire film surface. This is particularly important for black and white flat films.
For the small surface area of 35 mm film, it is still relatively easy to achieve uniform development across the film surface. The situation is of course somewhat different with sheet film. An 8×10” sheet film has about as much surface area as an entire 35mm film – almost the size of an A4 sheet of paper. It goes without saying that an optimum tool is required to develop such a large area evenly. Especially when taking pictures with large gray areas, uneven development would have catastrophic consequences, up to and including rendering the film unusable.
Time and again, JOBO was approached by passionate large-format photographers who, in times of need, had rolled an Expert Drum by hand on the table. The results were generally usable, but never really satisfactory. Neither manual agitation was consistently possible, nor could uniform development over the entire film surface be guaranteed. This is because this requires the chemistry to be poured into a rotating drum.
In contrast to the continuous and pendant machines commonly used in laboratories, one-time processing enables absolutely reproducible results. In addition to uniform film development, JOBO processors also stand for minimal chemical consumption.
Johannes Bockemühl-Simon, JOBO International, Gummersbach, Germany: “With the SilverBase Expert, we offer exactly the solution that all large-format photographers who shoot almost exclusively on black and white film have been waiting for.”
The modular JOBO tank system makes a robust and high-quality impression in its overall processing and finishing. The target group is broadly diversified: The system is not only suitable for beginners and professionals. Laboratories in the service sector also appreciate its advantages.
For 35mm and 120 roll film, the JOBO SilverBase is the ideal processor for black and white film development without a water jacket bath. For sheet film photographers, developing with the JOBO SilverBase Expert is the new benchmark.
The JOBO SilverBase Expert is available immediately at a price of 1290 EUR incl. VAT.
