Lens manufacturer Meyer Optik Görlitz expands

The folks at Meyer Optik Görlitz are continuing to expand. They are taking over the lens assembly process for their lens ranges.

At the end of 2018, OPC Optics who are based in Bad Kreuznach, acquired the trademark rights to Meyer-Optik and its lens designs. The original Meyer Optik Görlitz company was founded in 1896, and has a long history as a German manufacturer of high-quality lenses.

They have introduced five new lenses under the Meyer Optik Görlitz brand name. These lenses have a distinctly vintage bokeh.

“Meyer Optik Görlitz GmbH will expand to assemble lenses in addition to the current optical design and manufacture the lens elements. Until now, our lenses were assembled by a partner company in Hamburg. Our goal from the very beginning has been to handle this important part of the lens manufacturing process ourselves”, explains Timo Heinze, Managing Director Meyer Optik Görlitz GmbH.

“We chose the Hamburg as location because, in addition to the assembling-process, we can also take on personnel from the previous partner company. This ensures access to existing experience and expertise. And, Hamburg offers many sights for photography, as well as very good travelling options, making a visit to Meyer Optik Görlitz even more attractive.”

Visitors are welcome

When the new manufacturing site opens, it will be possible to visit the production of Meyer Optik lenses.

Interested parties can watch the handcrafted lenses being made and see for themselves how the lenses are produced. The glass lenses, produced using state-of-the-art processes, will continue to be delivered to the new workshop in the Hanseatic city by Meyer Optik’s sister company, OPC Optics, based in Bad Kreuznach.

The official opening ceremony will be held as soon as the Corona situation allows. Until then, a visit to the workshop requires a prior appointment request to make appropriate arrangements.
