Our instax™ Photo Walk in Frankfurt
by Marwan El Mozayen / SilvergrainClassics
From Römer to Opera – A Route Through the Heart of Frankfurt
Together with FFM Collective, we planned a vibrant walking route that began at the historic Frankfurt Römer and ended at the majestic Alte Oper, one of the city’s iconic landmarks. These walks are always popular, but this time the response was overwhelming. The event was fully booked within 48 hours of announcing it, with a growing waitlist that we, unfortunately, couldn’t accommodate.
Why the extra excitement? Well, this time every single one of the 15 participants was given the chance to use the brand-new instax WIDE Evo™ hybrid camera – and not just for a few test shots. Thanks to the generous support from the FUJIFILM instax™ team, everyone received their own camera and a full cassette of film to use throughout the walk.
A Camera That Brings Three Worlds Together
The instax WIDE Evo™ isn’t just another instant camera. It’s a true hybrid, combining the magic of instant photography, the feel and aesthetic of analog shooting, and the flexibility of digital control. With physical dials and manual switches, it’s a camera you feel as much as use. And it’s all wrapped in a sleek anthracite-colored body that’s both retro and modern at once.
But what really stood out was the creative freedom. Participants could experiment with effects, exposure, and composition before committing to a final shot. No wasted prints, just carefully composed moments.
Experts on Hand, Questions Encouraged
We were thrilled to be joined by Stephan Althoff, Head of Marketing Picture Taking at FUJIFILM, and his colleague Benedikt Hartmann, Product Specialist Picture Taking at FUJIFILM who were both actively involved in the planning from an early stage. Rather than just handing over cameras and disappearing, they walked the entire route with us, answering questions, offering tips, and engaging in conversations about photography, film, and creative techniques.
Exploring, Learning, Creating
The route itself was carefully curated by FFM Collective to be not just visually interesting, but also informative. Participants could access additional info via QR codes placed along the walk, offering bits of history and geographic trivia about the locations we passed. Combined with the warm weather and the lively group, the entire event had the feel of an urban photo festival in miniature.
From Prints to Pop-Up Gallery
At the final stop at the Alte Oper, we ended the day in style. The stone walls of the building became our gallery space as we laid out the freshly exposed instax™ shots. And what a collection it was – portraits, street scenes, reflections, moments of movement and stillness, each print a tangible memory created just moments earlier.
It was the perfect finale: a spontaneous instant gallery, full of laughter, surprises, and admiration. One participant summed it up best: “It’s amazing how quickly strangers become a community when they’re sharing something they love.”
A Global, Ageless Passion
Our group was as diverse as the images produced. We welcomed people from all age groups, from Frankfurt locals to international guests – including one photographer who had traveled all the way from Brazil. What united them all was the simple, shared love of photography.
Thank You to All Involved
We want to thank Stephan Althoff, Benedikt Hartmann, and the entire FUJIFILM instax™ team for their support, the FFM Collective for their energy and organization, and most of all, the participants, whose openness, curiosity, and creativity made this such a memorable experience.
If you missed this one, don’t worry – there’s more to come. But fair warning: these walks fill up fast!
We Tested the Camera
Before the photo walk in Frankfurt, SilvergrainClassics put the instax WIDE Evo™ through a thorough test. Here is a video showing our experiences (click on the image).
