Film Development With the Successful LAB-BOX And the New M-BOX

by Hermann Groeneveld / SilvergrainClassics

“After a dedicated three-year development journey, we are thrilled to introduce a groundbreaking accessory, named M-BOX,  that will redefine the film developing experience. This innovative addition to our product LAB-BOX will bring significant benefits.”

Alessandro Franchini

The M-BOX as an Accessory

The M-BOX was developed as an accessory for the LAB-BOX. Its main purpose is to automate the rotation during the development process. This allows the individual steps to be carried out more precisely and consistently, resulting in more reliable outcomes. The M-BOX is compact, portable, and designed to visually complement the LAB-BOX.

Rotation Modes

The M-BOX offers three rotation programs that can be selected depending on the stage of development:

  • Continuous, slow rotation
  • Intermittent, fast rotation with pauses
  • Continuous, fast rotation

The motorized and even movement ensures uniform development. This is particularly beneficial for areas with subtle tonal gradients, such as skies or evenly lit backgrounds, where smooth tonal transitions are important.

Design and Operation

The device is made of matte black plastic with orange accents and is designed with portability in mind. On the top panel, users will find:
  • a power button,
  • a selector knob for choosing the rotation program,
  • and LED indicators showing the charging status.
On the side, there is a compartment for storing the coupling piece that connects the M-BOX to the LAB-BOX. The battery compartment is located at the bottom, protected by a silicone cap, which also provides space for the charging cable. Charging is carried out via a USB-C port.
