Some Wonderful Personal News

Hermann Groeneveld / SilvergrainClassics

Bruce Barnbaum has sent us a short travel report about his recent trip to Europe. We would like to share his impressions with you.

“Just over a week ago I returned home from a trip to Europe that was wonderful in every way. The two high points were the incredibly enjoyable opening of an exhibition featuring 38 of my images in a Heidelberg, Germany, gallery, followed by a photography workshop based in Montisi, a small hilltop village in the heart of Tuscany, Italy.

The heidelberg images fotogalerie has been around for decades, run by Alexander Ehhalt, who is also the co-instructor for the Tuscany workshop. We’ve worked together for a decade, and it’s always a pleasure to be with Alexander. At the exhibit opening, rather than deal with the pleasant, but superficial, parade of viewers saying little more than how much they like the imagery, I asked for questions or comments about the images from the group (perhaps 100 or more were in attendance), which turned it into a far more interesting conversation involving the entire group. Everyone enjoyed the interaction.

The subsequent workshop continued the direct communication, but with a far smaller group (even though we were filled), and far more intimately. We visited marvelous landscapes, often with magical morning fog, and nearby villages too wonderful and picturesque to believe. In addition to our lovely outings, our workshop allows for real, deep discussions about the artistry, the skills, and the deep personal meaning that makes photography such a great creative endeavor. And of course, those landscapes, villages, and the food and wines of Italy made everything even better.

In another ten days I depart again for my final workshop away from home in 2025. My destination is southern Utah, featuring some of the most startling and unique landscapes on earth. I’m very much looking forward to that workshop, and to more of the in-depth discussions that are central to all of my workshops. We still have two openings, and can accept you, even at this late date. (For information, go to my website at www.barnbaum.com and to the Workshops page, or phone me directly at 1-360-691-4105.).

Following that, my remaining three workshops for 2025 are all at my home and darkroom, surrounded by forests and mountains in the state of Washington, yet another beautiful location.”
