Montisi, Tuscany, March 2025
Workshop Masterclass with Bruce Barnbaum and Alexander Ehhalt – 2 places still available. The workshops with Bruce have been running for 13 years now, and the one at Montisi will be the ninth and probably last one.
A Unique Opportunity for Photographers of All Levels
Whether you are an amateur or professional photographer, working in analog or digital photography, or prefer black-and-white or color photography – this workshop offers you the chance to improve your skills and discover new perspectives in your photographic work. The focus will be on developing knowledge in subject choice, light management, and composition.
Led by Renowned Experts
Bruce Barnbaum and Alexander Ehhalt are internationally recognized photographers with decades of experience. In addition to their exceptional creativity, they master both analog and digital photography techniques and will share their knowledge during the workshop. Participants will receive both creative inspiration and technical support.
The Perfect Location: Montisi in the Val d’Orcia
Montisi, a charming village on the edge of the Val d’Orcia, offers the ideal setting for this masterclass. The region is known for its stunning hill landscapes, which are protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as its exceptional regional specialties such as olive oil, truffles, and the world-famous Brunello wine from Montalcino.
For the workshop week, a large historic space in the center of Montisi will be available, including a garden for classes and breaks. Accommodation will be provided in charming, comfortable rooms nearby – affordable and stylish. A cozy bar in the neighborhood will take care of breakfast and breaks.
The workshop combines practical outdoor sessions with intensive classroom sessions. During the outdoor sessions, participants will photograph at carefully selected, inspiring locations. In the classroom sessions, lectures, presentations, and image reviews will be the main focus. Both the instructors’ work and the participants’ submitted works will be analyzed and critically discussed in detail.
Participants should bring about 10 of their best works – ideally printed in A3 or A2 format – as these will be discussed during the “Idea Sessions.” Feedback from the instructors and the group is considered especially enriching by previous participants and is one of the highlights of the workshop. Therefore, it is advisable to begin reviewing and printing your works early.
Another key focus is on the topics of photo-documentation, editing, and the creation of magazines and books. These topics will be explored in depth by Alexander Ehhalt and will provide valuable insights for photographers who want to present their works professionally.

Bruce Barnbaum: Book Presentation and Exhibition
Bruce Barnbaum introduced his new book Discoveries of a Lifetime.
In 2019, Bruce began reviewing his black-and-white negatives and contact prints from his entire career since 1970. His initial hope was to perhaps find one or two forgotten treasures. To his surprise, he not only found a few but a whole series of extraordinary images that needed to be rediscovered and appreciated.
On March 21, 2025, we warmly invite you to visit a special exhibition featuring Bruce Barnbaum’s previously unpublished works, held in conjunction with his workshop. Additionally, a book evening with a signing session will take place at our Heidelberg Images Photography Gallery.
