Creative Filmmakers Discover Super 8 and 16mm

Experience the Fascination of Analog Filmmaking

By Marwan El Mozayen

Workshop Description

Experience the fascination of analog filmmaking with Super 8 and explore the 16mm format in an intensive Silvergrain Academy workshop, designed specifically for creative filmmakers. Whether it’s music videos, fashion clips, or commercials, analog film formats offer unique opportunities to bring your vision to life.

A Film Format with Texture and Distinct Aesthetic

Since its introduction almost 60 years ago in April 1965, the Super 8 format has inspired generations of filmmakers with its distinctive look, authenticity, and unique atmosphere. Super 8 remains a popular medium for artists seeking a special visual aesthetic. Its ease of use combined with expressive imagery ensures its presence even in large-scale, elaborate productions.

The Workshop

This workshop will show you how to enhance your projects with Super 8. Together, we will learn the basics of working with this analog format and immediately apply the knowledge on the grounds of 4ReelDocs.

A special highlight is the expert guidance of Holger C. Schwärzel, Product Manager Super 8 at Kodak GmbH, who will provide valuable insights into the technology, history, and creative applications of Super 8 and be available for individual questions.

In addition, Michael Boxrucker, BVK Cinematographer and Kodak European Training Manager at Eastman Kodak Company Motion Picture, will introduce the 16mm format. Participants will have the opportunity to handle a 16mm camera and shoot on KODAK VISION 3 color negative film. The footage will be developed after the workshop and made available.as an online scan for viewing.
